Philosophy

Horta de Tramuntana is synonymous with produce, health, food and a rich diversity of authentic colours, flavours and textures. It represents a balance between natural order and disorder, with a deep connection to ecology and regeneration.

Our philosophy?

Quality, ecology, regeneration, biodiversity, food sovereignty, seasonal products, traditional varieties and... few machines!

We want every food that reaches you to carry with it all the energy and respect we put into growing it.

Our values, explained in a natural way:

ECO AND REGENERATIVE: We are certified by the CCPAE, but we go further: we protect crops in different ways to avoid, even, “bio-pesticides” and we promote natural and spontaneous biological control with criteria of minimal intervention. The soil is a living being, and that is why we apply regenerative practices. Plants contain more properties if they grow in living soil.

BIODIVERSITY: Surely, we are the antithesis of monoculture... Flowers, herbs, bees, insects, good practices and lots of varieties are the perfect combination to contribute positively to our biodiversity.

BIO-INTENSIVE GARDEN: Our system is bio-intensive: we plant with narrow frames, keeping the soil always covered to prevent erosion and retain carbon. We carry out agriculture with the utmost respect for the environment and nature.

AND MORE: We use mulches of shredded wood, straw or others to reduce water consumption, improve soil microbiology and prevent erosion. We use minimal mechanization, most processes are completely manual. We regenerate soils and care for ecosystems.

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING: Our packaging is mainly made of cardboard, paper and compostable materials, because caring for the planet also involves how we present our products.

SEEDS: 100% of our vegetables are traditional varieties, which are not so easy to find and which are in danger of extinction. We are talking about unique varieties such as yellow beetroot, purple carrot or white eggplant. They are history and culture.

And why do we work with traditional varieties? Because traditional varieties, unlike modern F1 varieties, are food sovereignty. We can reproduce them ourselves without depending on patents or intellectual property. In addition, they are not only beautiful and different, they are also more nutritious, they feed us more and better (nutrient-dense food) and they preserve all the organoleptic properties that make them special: the aroma, taste and authentic texture of each variety.

We reproduce most of the seeds we grow ourselves. When we buy them, we make sure they are of organic and/or biodynamic origin.
